    Merit Calculation Policy

    How the MDCAT Live competitive ranking is strictly determined.

    Strict Merit Ranking Rules

    The Merit Base leaderboard ranks students primarily by the highest total marks achieved in their best individual test attempt. When thousands of students compete, exact score ties are extremely common. To ensure fair competitive ranking, the system automatically applies the following 3 tie-breaking rules in chronological order:

    Total Obtained Marks

    This is the fundamental ranking factor. The student with the absolute highest number of correct answers (Highest Marks) in a single test attempt secures the top rank automatically.

    Major Subject (Biology) Performance

    If two or more students achieve the exact same Total Marks, the system activates the first tie-breaker by checking their Biology score specifically. The student with the higher obtained marks in the Biology section is awarded the higher overall rank.

    Minimum Time Taken

    If the students are still tied in both Total Marks AND Biology Marks, the final tie-breaker activates. The system compares the exact absolute time taken to submit the test in seconds. The student who successfully completed the test in the least amount of time is ranked higher.
